Deputy Information minister Sithokozile Mathuthu has told the Senate that she was not well conversant with English language as it is not her first language.

Mathuthu was responding as to why the Senate debates are not televised on ZTV in the same manner as the National Assembly.

"I want to thank the Hon Member for the question.  I thought I could use any language because I am not so fluent in English, which is not my mother tongue but I will try" she begun her response as quoted by the Hansard.

"It is not in the statutes of this country that this House should not be covered by media at all.  I am also worried because I would also like to appear on television.

"May the Hon. Members in this distinguished House allow me to take this matter further?  When I came in, I thought I saw a lady with a camera coming here so I am equally surprised that our House is not receiving due attention, which we are entitled to as legislators.  So, I will definitely take it up with the Hon. Minister and the CEO of ZBC, Mr. Mavhura".

Nearly all National Assemble debates are broadcast live on ZTV.
