Zanu PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere reportedly came under a new wave of sustained attack from aging President Robert Mugabe over Masvingo province.
That was during the party politburo meeting on Wednesday.
According to reports, Kasukuwere had accused Josaya Hungwe and Shuvai Mahofa of fuelling chaos in the province.
Based on NewsDay reports quoting politburo sources, Mugabe "sprang to Hungwe and Mahofa's defence, chastising Kasukuwere and apportioning blame on the entire party leadership".
"After Kasukuwere had told Hungwe that he was the main problem in the province and that he was destroying the party, the President reprimanded him, saying the party, as a whole, should take responsibility for the mess," the publication said Friday.
"But the commissar did not stop lashing out at Hungwe, resulting in the President asking him if he was now arguing with him".
The tension lasted over 45 minutes, the publication added.
