A newly licensed Zimbabwean weekly newspaper, the Southern Star is set to hit the streets next week.
The paper was licensed in October this year by the Zimbabwe Media Commission after the liberalisation media freedom in the country.
The Southern Star is stable within the Chayah Media Services which is also going to be publishing a monthly gospel magazine, Gospel times. Chayah media services chairman, Advocate Lucas Nkomo said the Southern Star is an exciting product which has come to make a visible impact in the Zimbabwean media landscape.
"The Southern Star will set the tone of the exciting times in journalism. This is just the beginning," he said.
He said the company will start by publishing a limited edition which has been termed a souvenir copy.
"We are officially hitting the streets on the 19th of January 2012 and we shall live true to our mantra."
The Southern Star becomes the first weekly newspaper to hit the streets since Z. M. C. since the formation of the Government of National Unity in February 2009.
The commission has licensed a number of papers among them, the Daily News, Newsday, and the now defunct Mail.
