8 cops accused of stealing gold ore

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating eight detectives based at Guruve Criminal Investigations Department (C.I.D) .

The eight cops are suspected to have stolen 600grams of gold ore at Makara gold mine in Guruve, Mashonaland Central province.

Sources familiar with the development said the eight were deployed at Makara gold mine for patrol on Monday night when they arrived reportedly drunk and started harassing three security guards before switching off electricity for easy access of stealing.

The eight cops include five males and three ladies who have been identified by their second names as Mutusva, Lice, Chikwati, Mabonga, Nyawasha, Muranda, Sibanda and Pisi.

The mine owner Ashy Makara complained to the police over the abuse of office by the eight resulting in them being investigated and have been ordered to write reports.

The police could not comment as they said the matter is still under investigation.
