Senior MDC-T Bulawayo provincial officials have hit top gear in jostling to land the vacant senatorial and MDC-T national executive seat.

Officials are keen to replace the late Victor Mapungwana who died two weeks ago.

Bulawayo24.com heard that sacked Bulawayo deputy mayor Gift Banda, former legislator Felix Mafa and academic Mandla Nyathi are the current leading horses.

Banda and Nyathi are reportedly in the vice president Thokozani Khupe's camp while Mafa is backed by Nelson Chamisa.

"The Chamisa led faction wants Felix Mafa to be the Senator while the Khupe led group is toying between Mandla Nyathi and the disgraced former deputy mayor Gift Banda.

"Banda is likely to get the senatorial seat because he is a double agent.

"He works for Chamisa while publicly masquerading as a Khuphelyte. Both factions may back him despite his criminal record which ZANU PF can use to block him" political activist Fortune Mlalazi said.

Mapungwana, who replaced Matson Hlalo in the Upper House last year died after a short illness.

He was 50.

At one point  Mapungwana was the party's national representative in the province.
