Bulawayo council turndown Mugabe birthday bash request

The MDC-T led Bulawayo City Council last week refused to avail the Mayor's Vintage Roll Royce for a street party in the city to   celebrate President Robert Mugabe's 93rd birthday.

Council said it would be unprocedural to release the vehicle for any occasion without the mayor being invited and using it.

"In regard to use of the Mayoral Vintage Rolls Royce, it was unprocedural to utilise this vehicle for any occasion when the City Mayor was not inside the vehicle.

" In terms of tradition, only the Mayor uses the car and therefore if His Worship the Mayor was invited
and had accepted such an invitation" reads part of the latest council report.

 That was after Town Clerk Christopher Dube had attended a preparatory meeting last Monday chaired by The meeting was chaired by the Bulawayo Provincial Administrator – Khozani Ncube.

 The meeting made a string of requests for  council ranging from availing  a refuse/rubbish truck and street cleaners that will follow the procession along the route promoting a clean-up campaign and also provide refreshments during preparatory meetings.

The  City Hall car park and Large City Hall were to be made availed at no cost.
 
Mugabe hosted a lavish gig in Matopo on Saturday attended mostly by Zanu PF members.
