The MDC says it conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Gombami family following the death of one of its founder members and the current provincial Women's Assembly chairperson for Bulawayo, Senator Gladys Dube Gombami.
"We learnt with great shock and sadness of the passing on of one of our illustrious daughters of the democratic struggle on Monday, 26 December 2011," said MDC in a statement.
Gombami will be buried at Lady Stanley cemetery in Bulawayo tomorrow. Mourners are gathered at No. 74-2270 Mpopoma, in Bulawayo.
The MDC and its entire leadership said it grieve with the family during this trying period.
Gombami was an active member of the Constitutional Select committee (COPAC) where she deputised Douglas Mwonzora.
The MDC said it is indebted to Gombami's contribution towards the struggle for democracy and her unwavering dedication motivates us to pursue the ideals for which the MDC was formed.
"To the party Gombami has left a legacy of courage, humility and peace. We are forever grateful, and as we move forward, we constantly reflect on the leaders we continue to lose on the way to a new, better and brighter future'" said MDC.
Born on 21 November 1963, Gombami did her primary education at Likhanyiso Primary School in Mpopoma before going to Mzilikazi High School for her secondary education.
She is survived by her husband, Fanuel and four children, Maureen, Scholastic, Clarkson and Tendai.
