The MDC T Midlands Provincial Assembly has fired the acting Zvishavane Town Council chairperson and suspended all its four remaining councillors for joining Zanu PF in pushing out the substantive town chairman Esau Dube..
Dube was suspended by Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Saviour Kasukuwere following a petition signed by Zanu PF councillors who were joined by the MDC T councillors.
Samuel Gadziwa who replaced Dube as the acting town chairman was totally fired from the party. Councillors Andrew Chikandiwa Mare, Fatuma Phiri and Itai Pasira have been suspended for six months for conniving with Zanu PF and "other enemies of the party" to push out Dube, who was fighting corruption at council.
Midlands Provincial Spokesperson Munyaradzi Mtandavari confirmed the latest development and said the four councilors have been served with the suspension letters while Gadziwa has been shown the exit door from both council and party. The move means Ward 1 seat becomes vacant and a by-election is due soon.
"The provincial Secretary General Zenzosenkosi Hove has served the four with the suspension letters as resolved by the provincial assembly. Gadziwa has been recalled from party and council because of his failure to adhere to party directives," said Mutandaviri.
"You are hereby notified that you have been suspended from the party for six months. You will however continue with your duties as a deployee of the party in Zvishavane Town Council as Councilor. It was noted that you disregarded a party directive to stop conniving with Zanu PF councilors and enemies of the party to discredit and subsequently fire Councilor Esau Dube as chairperson of the Town Board."
The suspension of Dube and dismissal of Gadziwa leaves Zanu PF and MDC T with four councillors each.
Gadziwa said he was going to contest the resolution because he feels the agenda was set in motion by his political foes in the party.
"I will pursue my case to the highest office because these are agendas of certain individuals who are vying for our positions," he said.
Town elder and Zvishavane Residents Association executive consultant James Ncube condemned the dismissals of town chairpersons who will be fighting corruption. He said apart from Dube, Government fired Alluis in 2011.
