Bulawayo woman appeals for assistance

A Sauerstown woman, Rosemary Pandukayi whose house was gutted by fire last September said she was appealing to well-wishers to assist her repair the house.
Pandukayi of Number 132 Palm Avenue in Sauerstown said she had now moved into the one-roomed staff quarters because the house was no longer habitable following the damage by the fire.
"Iam now sharing the single room which doubles as a bedroom and kitchen with my two grown up children and my grandson. The damage to the house was so extensive that it is no longer safe to use it even when we are cooking," she said.
Ms Pandukayi, a civil servant, said a lot of money was required to refurbish the building as some of the walls needed to be pulled down completely.
"I appeal to well-wishers to assist in cash and kind to enable me to repair this house," she said.
Ms Pandukayi said the estimated cost of repairs was about $2 000. She said apart from working on the walls, the house will have to be rewired, a new roof and ceiling put.
Ms Pandukayi said the family lost everything as the household property that included furniture and clothes was reduced to ashes.
"All my valuable possessions were lost in the fire. These included documents such as educational certificates, furniture and clothes. What I am putting on right now was donated by well-wishers," she said.
Ms Pandukayi said what worsened her situation was that the house was not insured.
