TOURISM minister Walter Mzembi has hinted that he has 'presidential ambitions' a development that is most likely to throw the succession race wide open.
Incumbent President Robert Mugabe (93) has long said he is not stepping down anytime soon and he wont groom a successor.
However, Mzembi is quoted by various credible media outlets saying he has chosen to succeed in the world and to test himself in a "global classroom" after which he expects to be better prepared for "any eventuality in the future".
Mzembi is campaigning to become secretary-general of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.
This is likely to be interpreted as eyeing the top seat within Zanu PF circles.
Mugabe is reported to have already picked former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono as the next president.
Zanu PF is divided between two faction with one backing Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, while a rival grouping is determined to stop him; the latter faction reportedly coalesces around Mugabe's wife, Grace.
