Chiredzi residents to sue Kasukuwere over audit results

The two Chiredzi residents associations have threatened to sue the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Saviour Kasukuwere for failing to release the results of an investigation of corruption carried out against Chiredzi Town Council.
They also want him to implement recommendations made therein.
Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers' Association Chairman Jonathan Muusha Mupamombe said the investigations were carried out by a team appointed by the Minister and he accused Kasukuwerere of remaining quiet, a year after investigations were completed.
He said the associations had since written Kasukuwere a letter but he has not responded.
Kasukuwere did not respond to questions given to him by the Mirror.
The investigation team which was led by Engineer Alpha Nhamo is said to have unearthed several irregularities at council and recommended action to be taken by the Minister. However, despite confirming the outcome of the audit Kasukuwere is yet to make it public almost a year now.
"We met and made a decision to approach the court to force the Minister to take action as recommended by an investigation team which came to council last year. The findings were clear as they unearthed several irregularities which touched on stands, budget, conduct of council chairman and other issues. We are shocked by the Minister's silence a year after the findings.
"We have since approached our lawyers so that we start the legal proceedings," said Mupamombe.
Kasukuwere was livid about the issue when he spoke to The Mirror last year and promised to make a clean sweep of Chiredzi Town Council.
