Illegal driver fined $150

A Bulawayo man who was caught red handed by the city council security officers driving without proper certification for public vehicles has been slapped with a $150 fine with an option of one month in jail.
Elton Honye (38) pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a public vehicle without proof of continuous driving certificate for five years' experience and that of obstructing the visibility of the number plates of the vehicle he was driving.
The magistrate Adeline Mbeure convicted and fined him.
The court was told that on March 31 this year at 5pm Honye was driving a Toyota Hiace when he was arrested by the City Council officers and when he produced a driver's licence it was discovered that he has been driving a public vehicle without a written proof of continuous driving for five years prior to driving the public vehicle.
In the second count he was also charged for obstruction the vehicle's number plates to evade identification when he runs away from the police.
