The late Central Intelligence Organisation Zenzo Ntuliki Ncube has reportedly been declared a national hero.
Ncube died at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo on Friday night.
Zanu-PF Matabeleland South had requested the party to confer national hero status on him.
Unconfirmed reports from usually reliable sources reaching Bulawayo24.com Tuesday evening pointed to a hero's status for Ncube whose last post was Assistant Director in the President's Department in charge of the western region.
The Western region that he was in charge of covers Bulawayo, Masvingo, Matabeleland North and South as well as Midlands.
His burial date could be squeezed on Thursday as President Robert Mugabe who normally presides over National burials has a tight schedule this week.
On Wednesday through to late Friday, Mugabe will be hosting visiting Namibian president who is expected in Harare tomorrow.
The two leaders would be in Bulawayo on Friday for the ongoing Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.
Ncube was born on 8 August 1959 in Gwanda District's Matshetsheni area, Matabeleland South.
He, however, grew up in Mawabeni in Esigodini where he did his primary education.
For his secondary education he went to Gwanda High School which he left in 1974 when he was in Form 3 to join the armed struggle in Zambia via Botswana.
He was 15 then.
He is survived by eight children, three girls and five boys and six grandchildren.
