AGRICULTURE deputy minister (livestock) Paddy Zhanda launched an unprovoked attack on all men whose children school fees is paid for through the government sponsored Basic Education Access Model (BEAM) saying they are just outright lazy.
Zhanda told Lupane villagers that such men are an embarrassment.
The Beam programme is assisting thousands of indigent pupils and orphans, among others, to access basic education.
"I fail to understand how someone will proudly call himself a father yet his child's fees are paid by Basic Education Access Model, proudly call yourself a father when you, your children and your wife survive on food aid" said Zhanda as quoted by NewsDay.
He went on, "It is embarrassing to hear people, especially grown up men, asking when the government or non-governmental organisation food aid is coming.
" That is very unAfrican, it's very wrong. That is why at the end of the day politicians end up calling you "my people' because of that syndrome of depending on food aid,".
BEAM is a Government of Zimbabwe social protection programme, implemented by the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare (MoPSLSW) under the National Action Plan for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (NAP) II.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, (MoPSE) is a key implementing partner as it is responsible for the management of schools and at the impact level BEAM contributes towards Zimbabwe's progress towards the internationally-agreed target of ensuring universal free primary education for all.
