The Bulawayo City Council's contracted refuse collectors are giving residents in the high density suburbs anxious moments as they are reportedly harassing those who miss the garbage collecting vehicle.
Residents who spoke to Bulawayo24.com said the garbage collecting vehicle comes once a week to collect their bins around 6 am, if they pass through a house and do not see a bin they move on and become verbally abusive if followed. They also refuse to take the bins.
"We are in serious trouble with these contracted guy. They come at 6am in high density suburbs collecting refuse. If you miss them and follow them in the next line you will be calling for trouble. They shout at you and refuse to carry the refuse," said Sithembile Mpofu from Njube suburb.
Another source said that the refuse collectors were pushing them to create dump sites since they cannot leave with rubbish in their yard.
"The problem being created by the council guys is that of dump sites because by refusing to carry my bin, I will just find a place to heap my litter thereby creating a dump site," said Henry Dube from Entumbane.
Efforts to contact Bulawayo City Council were futile up to the time of this writing.
