MDC-T deputy secretary general Tapiwa Mashakada has said Zimbabwe has lost 60% of its gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He said however Africa's growth has remained stagnant at 3% due to failed systems.
"Africa growth has remained stagnant at 3%. With the exception of the East African Community led by Kenya which has been growing at 6%. The IGAD countries, the Arab Maghareb Union, Sadc, Ecowas and Central African States are all registering average growth of less than 3%," he said.
"Now Zimbabwe growth for last year was 1.6%. Our GDP is a mere $14billion one of the lowest in Africa. Our economy was devalued from 2000 to 2008. Zimbabwe lost 60% of its GDP. The country has deindustrialized and has not heard commercial and industrial urban development in the last 20 years."
He said a person who died 20 years ago would rise and still wont get lost in Harare or Bulawayo.
"Over 3 million Zimbabweans live outside Zimbabwe. If Zimbabwe was the second best developed country I don't think leaders and chefs would go outside for treatment. I don't think they would send their kids abroad for education. If Zimbabwe was that developed we would not have 85% unemployment and a total national debt stock of $9billion," he said.
"For the record in terms of GDP Zimbabwe is a failed state in the ranks of Somalia and the Comoros. In terms of development Zimbabwe has been overtaken by Zambia, Mozambique, Angola, Namibia, Uganda, Kenya and many African countries whose infrastructure and GDP by far surpasses ours. Our Agriculture sector has been decimated we are no longer the bread basket of Africa. We cannot possibly be the second most developed country in Africa. On education yes."
