Ailing 93 year old President Robert Mugabe is in Singapore for a medical check-up at the recommendation of his Zimbabwean specialist eye doctor.
The said doctor is based in Zimbabwe and is black, presidential spokesman, George Charamba has said.
The specialist needs the facilities in Singapore, Charamba said.
Charamba said the specialist had recommended that, given "Mugabe's age, he needed specialist eye care only available in Singapore" he told CapitalKFM this Wednesday afternoon on 'Fragility of Zimbabwe' debate session.
Charamba said his boss is not the only Head of State that visits the Singapore hospital that the president goes to.
Mugabe jetted out on Monday for his routine medical check-up.
He is expected back in Zimbabwe at the weekend in time to bury late former chief justice Godfrey Chidyausiku.
Mugabe who has been in power since 1980 regularly travels to Singapore for health check-ups and private holidays and his last medical trip was in March.
He now walks with difficulty and sometimes dozes off during meetings made his last public appearance at the World Economic Forum on Africa last week.
His health has been the subject of increased speculation in recent years and authorities in March arrested two journalists over a report alleging that he was "in bad shape".
