An 18-year-old man Mbire district allegedly hunted and killed a crocodile in the Utete river in Mashonaland Central province.
It emerged at the Guruve magistrate court that Oliva Kwainonona of Kwainonona village killed a crocodile in the process contravening section 59 (b) (2) of Parks and Wildlife act chapter 20:14 of 1996, which states that it is unlawful to hunt or removal of any animal in any land.
The prosecutor Ms Jane Mwanandimai told the court that on 14 April 2017, Oliva killed a crocodile using an axe with the intention of seeing what was in its stomach prompting a Parks and Wildlife officer to visit the scene before his arrest.
The case was withdrawn before plea as it lacked sufficient evidence by the state who failed to bring all witnesses.
The matter is to be re-addressed by the investigating officer and be brought back to court when all the facts are in order.
The suspect was accompanied to court by his father who is a village head in the village.
The village head was seen by people who attended the trial sprinkling some stuff presumed to be juju.
