AFM church sued for over $16 000 rates debt

The Apostolic Faith Mission in Bulawayo has been taken to court over a debt of over $16 000.
Bulawayo city council sued the church demanding the payment of $16 995.
The local authority said it was obliged in terms of the law to provide services to residents which include the sewer, refuse collection and other services and was entitled to charge the defendant for the services.
It said between June 2009 and January 2015 the church failed to pay monthly charges for the services and accumulated arrears amounting to $16 995,83. It said despite demand defendant has failed or refused to pay the said arrears.
