Four Zimbabwe Republic Police traffic police stationed at Tongogara, Gweru Rural District were arrested on Friday following a $15 short fall in their roadblock books, which they alleged to have receipted on credit to a well-known motorist.
Sources close to investigations allege four constables, Dube, Ngandu, Makurira and Kambanje, were on retention duties at Donga turn-off along Shurugwi-Mandamabwe road in an effort to achieve the set target.
During the course of their duties, Police General Head Quarters (PGHQ), arrived at the site for on the spot checks and they found the four's books not in order.
"The PGHQ internal team searched the roadblock team and found no extra cash. Pursuing with their duties, they tried to balance the cash on hand with Z69J copies and the internal team discovered that $210 was receipted in the books whilst the roadblock team was holding $195 with a shortfall $15.
"Upon being interviewed, the roadblock team indicated that they receipted $15 on credit and the offender would pay for the ticket after some trips from Chachacha to Shurugwi since he is a local motorist.
"The accused highlighted that they were trying to boost their cash upon being paid in order to meet the set target," said the source
Meanwhile, the accused were arrested by the internal team for contravening Police Act chapter 10:11 which suggests they "Omitted or neglected to perform duty or performed duty in an improper manner."
The cops were brought to Donga Post and are currently assisting with investigations.
Traffic cops are reported to be continuously using desperate measures and corruption in an effort to raise the much needed targets.
