ZANU-PF Bulawayo Province has embarked on a verification process of its districts in a bid to strengthen its structures.
District executives were elected before the 12th Annual National People's Conference held in the city in December last year and have now been inducted in their new roles in the party.
In an interview on Monday, the provincial chairman, Isaac Dakamela, said the process was meant to reinforce the party and improve its communication system.
"We are doing a verification process for district executives, where we are checking if the elected executives are available on the ground in their respective districts. We also want to make sure that they are aware of the party structures and other important things," said Dakamela.
"We are visiting all the 102 districts in the province and we are hoping to complete the exercise by the end of this week."
Dakamela said the process would next week cascade to branches and cells, before senior party officials from Harare come to the province to supervise elections for District Coordinating Committees (DCCs).
"When we have finished the verification process in the districts, we will move to branches and cells where we are going to go through the same process, making sure that the structures are fully operational and members know what they have to do within the party.
"Soon after the process in the branches and cells, senior party officials will come from Harare to supervise elections for DCCs in the province," said Dakamela.
However, Dakamela said people in the districts were concerned about local authorities, service providers and schools which were charging exorbitant rates and fees at a time when they were facing serious economic challenges.
"The verification process is going on well but a majority of the people in the province have expressed concern over the high cost of living and the exorbitant tariffs being charged by Zesa and the Bulawayo City Council.
"People are also concerned about schools which are sending home children for failing to pay school fees. The high cost of living has negatively affected their children," he said.
Dakamela said it was important for people to take part in the elections and vote for Zanu-PF which has the people at heart to avoid such situations.
"There is nothing that we can do since we are in the inclusive Government. If we go for elections and people vote for Zanu-PF, we would be able to control the cost of living for the benefit of ordinary citizens. Now that we are in the inclusive Government, people are doing what they want without anybody controlling them.
"We must come to a stage where the party can negotiate with schools and map a way forward while children are learning because stopping them from going to school will not solve anything but create more problems," said Dakamela.
