WATER Resources minister Sam Sipepa Nkomo is a liability that Government and his party should speedily remove from office before he completely destroys the little that has been done to bring water to Matabeleland, Jabulani Sibanda has said.
In a wide-ranging interview, Sibanda â€" who is the chairman of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWA), said Nkomo has no clue of what his mandate is and has gotten himself to dirty by "insulting" King Lobengula.
Nkomo, who belongs to the Movement for Democratic Change party led by Morgan Tsvangirai, is on record of likening his president to Ndebele King â€" Lobengula.
The livid war veterans leader also took a swipe at former Zipra intelligence supremo Dumiso Dabengwa for doing a "clumsy job" during his tenure as the chairperson of the then Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project (MZWP) and for "failing to produce" audited statements of what he did.
Said Sibanda when asked about his view on progress in the Zambezi water pipeline project:
"That project has never been in serious hands after the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo Joshua Nkomo and Makokoba Member of Parliament Sydney Malunga.
"We had had fellows like Dumiso Dabengwa who were busy pursuing their personal interests and doing clumsy work there instead of seeing to it that our people get water.
"When Joshua Nkomo and Sydney Malunga started it, it was a people's project, to solve this problematic water phenomenon but when corruption came in also later, the problem could not be solved," he said.
Sibanda added: "We have a situation where visionaries start a good project and along the way crops political liabilities and revolutionary contemporaries, they really seem to be but they are not," he said.
Turing to Sipepa Nkomo he lashed out:
"He (Nkomo) has never been serious about anything. It is clear that he is a useless fellow whose party and Government must remove from office quickly before he destroys the small achievement we have made.
"His knowledge of history is zero and that is why he has the guts to insults Ndebeles and King Lobengula by likening his leader, a known imperialist sell-out and puppet to the King.
"He and his masters must know that King Lobengula never sold out, was never a puppet. In fact King Lobengula never surrendered in any battle not was he captured.
"How and why Sipepa Nkomo thinks someone who wants gay rights and has sold out his country to former colonial masters is like the Kind who fought imperialist domination as early as in 1893, shows that the man is mad," said Sibanda.
Successive governments from pre-independence to date have for several reasons failed to complete the Matabeleland Zambezi Water project, which is aimed at easing water woes in the region and creating a green belt of irrigation schemes from the might Zambezi River to Bulawayo.
