A BULAWAYO teenager was last week rushed to hospital after a stick she had pushed up her privates in a failed abortion bid got stuck in her body.
19-year-old Nomsa Ncube of Pumula South was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where doctors battled for two hours to extract the 15cm stick.
According to the police, Ncube â€" who was then four months pregnant â€" was stunned last Wednesday when she informed her boyfriend that they were going to have a baby.
The boyfriend told her he would have nothing to do with the pregnancy since he was unemployed, forcing the panicked teen to take matters into her own hands.
She then decided to abort the pregnancy and headed to a bushy area near her home where she secured a 15cm stick from a Umhlafutho tree.
She then locked herself up in her bedroom and pushed the stick up her privates in a bid to terminate the pregnancy. However the stick got stuck in her body and she was soon in excruciating pain.
Afraid to face her parents, Ncube phoned a friend who called an ambulance and rushed her to hospital where doctors managed to relieve her of the sticky predicament.
However, she also lost her child.
One of the doctors who attended to her reported the case to the police leading to her arrest.
She has since appeared in court and was remanded out of custody to Tuesday, February 7.
