Prison Services granted free use of BCC stadium for commemorations

Bulawayo City Council has granted the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services has granted the use of White City Stadium for a function.

The Acting Director, Housing and Community Services reported that the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Officer Commanding, Bulawayo Metropolitan requesting use of White city Stadium.

"Reference is made to the above subject. Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service Bulawayo Metro Province will be commemorating Prisons and Correctional Service Day. This is an annual event mooted by heads of Prisons/Corrections from SADC countries in Livingstone, Zambia on the 26th September 2008, stating that all member states should commemorate this day," reads the latest council meeting.

"The idea was to introduce improved and sound prison management polices and systems to match global trends, marking the shift from punishing inmates to reforming them into better citizens. It is against this background that we are requesting to use, at no charge White City Stadium as a venue for the event."

The minutes states that number of activities are lined up for the day of which soccer is one of them.

"We wish to put it to your attention that Bulawayo City football club will be battling it out with the inmates to spice up the day.

"The department had no objections to the free use of White City Stadium for commemorating of Prisons and Correctional Service Day. This would be Council's contribution in kind toward this useful day in the City. Council had in the past granted free use of White City Stadium for the Prisons and Correctional Service Day," reads the minutes.

"That Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Bulawayo Metropolitan Province be granted free use of White City Stadium for commemorating Prisons and Correctional Service Day in view of the nature of the event."
