Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called for the arrest of the Zimbabwe Competition and Tariff Commission chairman, Dumisani Sibanda for ill-treating his employees at his company.
Sibanda runs C.Gauche company which deals with coal merchandising, bolts and nuts, hiring out trucks, mealie meal and grain products.
The workers has approached the labour court and ZCTU complaining of harassment and intimidation, forced unpaid leave, and work with no pay or late little salary payments.
Sibanda, according to the ZCTU and his employees, has on numerous occasions refused to award his employees a salary rise in violation of the arbitration by the National employment Council, boasting that he is untouchable and 'nothing will happen to him' because he has strong links to Zanu-PF.
"He is one of the worst employers I have ever worked for. We are always harassed, intimidated and forced to go on unpaid leave. Apart from that, we earn little salaries of less than $100.
"At one time, he invited war veterans to the company to come and threaten us when we were demanding our salaries," a member of the worker's committee who is on forced unpaid leave said but preferred not to be named fearing dismissal.
ZCTU regional spokesperson, Percy Mcijo confirmed that C.Gauche workers approached them for advice.
Mcijo said the labour body wants tough action to be taken on Sibanda suggesting even a jail sentence.
"The C.Gauche employees come to my office last week and want to go to court to seek the attachment of Sibanda''s property so that they claim their salaries. As ZCTU, we condemned in the strongest terms the way Sibanda treats his employees.
Sibanda refused to comment on Sunday saying he is "resting"
Sibanda leads the Tariff and Competition Commission that has been accused of failing to protect consumers from improper trade policies by local authorities, businesses and state utilities, which have seen ordinary people being burdened with high tariffs.
