Outrage over photo of Grade Zero pupil flogged by teacher

A photo of a Grade Zero pupil who was whipped by his/her teacher at Mkhithika Thebe primary school in Bulawayo has caused a stir only social media.

The teacher has been identified as Miss Pepe.

The photo (above) was shared of the social network Facebook by a diaspora-based Zimbabwean, Zah Sizethi Mpofu, with the caption:

"Lokhu kwenzeke e Mkhithika Thebe primary school .. uTitsha nguMiss Pepe (sp) Umntwana oku grade zero utshayelwani abenje so, matitsha matitsha khuzekani mani..... this teacher is evil."

Commenters have criticized the teacher's abusive behaviour, with some advising the parent to lodge a complaint at the school.

Musa Khumalo Pfukwa said: "This teacher must be suspended you don't leave visible marks these are the same people who will make people vote for corporal punishment to be banned in our country."

Mazwi Ndlovu said: "This is bad, had it been mine, that teacher was going to meet me outside the gate!."

Efforts to contact the school authorities about this incident are still in progress.
