US undercover police officer face jail in Zimbabwe

A US undercover police officer on holiday in Zimbabwe has been fined $2 300 or face 17 months in jail after being found in possession of a prohibited electric  knife.

Joseph Hutchings is said to be employed by the United States Division of Police Patrol Operations, State of Calafonia and he entered Zimbabwe through Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Airport on February 5.

Hutchings told immigration officials that he is on holiday but later surfaced at Malilangwe Conservancy in Chiredzi where he attended a workshop.

This was in breach of his visa permit.

Acting on a tip off, police pounced on Hutchings and recovered the electric knife on him.

Beitbrigde magistrate Carrington Karidzagundi fined him $2 300 or 17 months in jail.

He pleaded guilty to contravening section of the Immigration  Act and that of the Criminal Law (Reform and Codification) Act which deals with possessing of a prohibited knife.
