Thieves target mobile networks base stations

Daring thieves in Bulawayo are now targeting mobile networks base stations to drain diesel from the boosters.

Five city man David Nkosi, Joseph Muzamba, Mabutho ncube, Emmanuel Nkala and Gerald Manyara have been arrested for draining close to 1000 litres of diesel.

The theft occurred between February 3-12 this year.

The five, armed with inside information a former Econet security guard Naison  Lazane.

They pounced on Ntabazinduna, Trenance, Moray Primary School and several dotted in  Mpopoma and Khumalo suburbs.

Court records show that the gang drained fuel ranging from 200 litres to 300 litres.

Acting on complaints by guards, Econet bosses set up a trap and managed to arrest the five.

After draining the fuel they would then tie up the guards manning the stations and dump them a several meters away.

However, the gang has been arrested and remanded in custody to March five.

Jeremiah Mutsikindikwa prosecuted while Rose Dube was the magistrate.
