Bulawayo Metropolitan Governor Cain Mathema says he now want to live off his skills as an accomplished guitarist.

Mathema said he plays an acoustic guitar dating back to pre-independence and once recoded a Maskandi album.

Mathema, who is a also a published writer says he abandoned his childhood ambition of being a musician as the people around him constantly said there was no future in music.

"I play an acoustic guitar and in fact I started it way back in the colonial era. But it was difficult for society to accept it so I abandoned that" he says.

"Last year I shared a stage with Majahawodwa "Jeys" Ndlovu at Large City Hall. I used to drive to his house for rehearsals' said Matema who commutes daily from Tsholotsho to Bulawayo for work.

Now Mathema say he is taking further lessons to perfect his skills and he does so during lunch time.

"I hope to record another album. The first one was a Maskandi collaboration with Tshaka Sibindi" he said.

However, on playing to a larger public, he said he has to seek approval from his family first.
