Mental health patient raped by support worker, Hospital authorities conceal case

 A male worker at in Ingutsheni Hospital in Bulawayo is under probe for raping a mental health patient in a bathroom but hospital authority swept the matter under the carpet.

The male staff is aged 33 and the incident happened mid February.

 Bulawayo police spokesperson Madlenkosi Moyo said police are on the case.

"We are investigating a rape case involving an Ingustheni worker and a psychiatric patient" said Moyo.

 According to Moyo, the accused whose identify would be revealed in court, gently called then patient to a bathroom.

 The accused started kissing, fondling her breasts and raped her.

That did not go down well with the patient who recollected the events and narrated the forced intimacy to her fellow patients.

The hospital authorities got wind of the case but were reluctant to report to the police.

 However, after some time the suspected that the patient could be telling the truth and investigated the case.

Recently, Bulawayo24 reported that psychiatric patients at of both sexes at Gweru Hospital are sharing same wards compromising their privacy.

 Some patients have been caught having sex and some striping naked in front of each other.

 Also there have been several cases of health authorities sexually abusing females to the extent on impregnating them.
