The Seventh Day Adventist Church recently applied to the Bulawayo City Council seeking permission to use the city hall for free.
Latest council minutes states that the Town Clerk reported that an application had been received from the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
"The Seventh-day Adventist Church Youth and Children's Ministries Department do hereby apply and request for permission to use Small City Hall and Large City Hall free of charge on the 11th of March 2018 from 0900hrs to 1300hrs," reads the minutes.
"The church will be holding, as part of its annual outreach and humanitarian services to the community, a Global Youth and Children's Day celebration. Last year we celebrated this day by donating record blood quantities to the nation of Zimbabwe. This year's focus is on Food and Water. On this day we want to share information and lessons on the value of good food and clean water. To cap our Celebrations, we could like to share with the Street kids and blind beggars at least one decent meal (lunch) for the day."
The minutes states that the lunch will be served inside the Small City Hall on that very same day.
"We will request for waiver in terms of charges or costs related to the venue as this is a Humanitarian gesture by the Church to our beloved less privileged children. Thank you for allowing us to use the aforementioned facilities." In the past, free use of Council facilities had been extended only to events of a national character such as Independence celebration etc," reads the minutes.
"However purely on merit basis, Council had also granted concessionary rates for Welfare and Charitable organisations e.g. 75%, 50% or 25% rebates. The normal hire charge of both Small City Hall and Large City Hall for the duration requested was $584.13."
Council resolved that the Seventh Day Adventist church be offered a 50% rebate on the relevant charges for the use of Small and Large City Halls.
