An Old Magwegwe suburb woman cried out for help after she noticed a "stranger in her bedroom". Neighbours ignored her as they thought she was singing Tamia's song, but little did they know that a baboon had sneaked into her bedroom.
It is reported that the baboons that caused mayhem in Bulawayo last weekend were spotted alighting from a Victoria Falls train and though their life span in town was short-lived, they left residents wondering what they were up to.
On Friday morning a woman only identified as maHlatshwayo was heard screaming when an unexpected visitor got into her bedroom. She rushed out to inform her neighbours about the visitor. Sensing danger, the baboon ran away and residents failed to keep up with its pace. Later in the day, having failed its bedroom mission, the baboon decided to visit Ntshamathe primary school in the same suburb, where teachers and students had to take cover.
"After people failed to catch the baboon, it hid and resurfaced at the primary school where it ran into a classroom during lessons. This resulted in some brave pupils and the teacher cornering it and giving it a thrashing using all sorts of objects," said a witness identified as Dickson Ruzvive.
A resident said people spent half of the day following the baboon.
"In the morning people chased after it then got into a certain house and we suspect that it was looking for food and later it was at the school. The resident phoned Wildlife and National Park offices, who came and shot the baboon and people stoned it to death, but while residents were concentrating on the dead one, another baboon passed by and immediately ran away," he said.
