Zesa power cuts brings Bulawayo to a stand still
28 Mar 2012 at 06:50hrs | Views
Business ground to a halt in Bulawayo's Central business district this morning as Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority switched off power supplies around 6am.
Scores of angry business owners had by 9am gathered outside Zesa offices for inquires but no explanation was given by management.
Business owners claim to have lost substantial revenue due to power cuts.
Some banks and retail shops were by 9am still closed and workers who had hoped to access their salaries are stranded.
"I was hoping to withdraw my pay this morning but the bank is closed as there is no electricity. This is not good for business," said Alex Ncube outside one of the commercial banks in the city.
However, shops with generators are opened.
Zesa says it is owed more $5OO million hence its operations are hindered. The electricity cuts come a day before a South African business delegation is due in the city to explore business opportunities.
