A HIV positive Dete woman saved herself from being raped after she told her attacker that she has the deadly virus.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Siphiwe Makonese said the un-identified man broke into the woman's house at night.
"She was sleeping with her three children when the man broke into her bedroom."
"The man then drew out a knife and initially demanded money" said Makonese .
However, the woman realised that her attacker would harm her and her children, she tried to offer $15.
But the man suddenly demanded sex from the woman, Makonese said.
"She told him that she was HIV and he bolted out of the house. We think he got scared of possibilities of contracting the virus if he raped the woman."
A manhunt is now on for the suspect.
