Khupe challenges girl child to perform exceptionally well at school

Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe, has challenged the girl child to perform exceptionally well in education, as this is the foundation to a better life.
Ms Khupe made the call in Bulawayo while addressing girls from different schools who attended a luncheon held to commemorate the International Women's Day at the Small City Hall.
She expressed concern at the high number of women who die during child birth with statistics showing that 725 women die out of 100 000 live births.
Ms Khupe also said it is worrying that 17 years after the Beijing Declaration, women have still not achieved the 50-50 representation with their male counterparts.
The Deputy Provincial Education Director for Bulawayo province, Mr Emanuel Mukomba, said women have made great strides in the education sector with over 50% at both primary and secondary level being females.
