A pastor of a Bulawayo church has landed himself in trouble with the law after he was caught in bed with a congregant's wife and went on to severely assault the husband.

Pastor Nhlanhla Ncube (28), of the Nketa-based Zion Apostolic Church and residing at Number 1508 Nketa 8, was allegedly caught red-handed by Mr Lovemore Hadebe, a cross-border transporter popularly known as umalayitsha last week with his wife on their matrimonial bed.

It is alleged that Mr Hadebe of 7416 Nketa 9 returned from South Africa at about 9pm and found his wife (name not given) in bed with Ncube, their church pastor.

When Ncube saw that he had been caught, the State alleges, he picked an empty bottle and hit Mr Hadebe twice on the head before he could react.

Ncube is now facing a charge of assault.

He was not formally charged when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Richard Ramaboea yesterday.

Although Ncube indicated he would plead guilty to the charge, the court is waiting for a medical report to proceed.

He was remanded out of custody to 24 April on $100 bail.

The State, led by Ms Fiona Ncube, alleges that Ncube and Mr Hadebe's wife were lovers.

The court heard that on Thursday last week, Mr Hadebe arrived home in the evening to find his wife in bed with Ncube.

While Mr Hadebe was still in shock and before he could react to the situation, Ncube allegedly picked an empty bottle and hit him twice on the left side of the head.

Mr Hadebe reportedly fell down upon which Ncube started punching him with fists all over the body.

The court heard that Ncube also went on to stamp on Mr Hadebe who was lying unconscious on the ground.

Mr Hadebe allegedly sustained a swollen forehead and bruises on the right arm.

The matter was reported to the police, resulting in Ncube's arrest.

Appearing before the same court, a 39-year-old man from Mpopoma was sentenced to 105 hours of community service for physically abusing his girlfriend who had refused to have sex with him.

On Good Friday, Bekezela Dube asked his girlfriend, Ms Onai Mhoya also from Mpopoma, to accompany him to church along Khami Road behind Machipisa Enterprises.

When they arrived at the church site, there was no one as other church members had not arrived.

Dube and Mhoya sat on a rock and he started fondling her and asked for sex.

When she refused, Dube got angry and punched her with a fist on the face and head-butted her, resulting in her sustaining a swollen mouth.

Dube pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to a wholly suspended three-month jail sentence on condition he completes 105 hours of community service at Western Commonage Magistrates' Courts.
