The rehabilitation of Plumtree-Mutare road at the expense of more than $200 million is set to start on Monday in Plumtree.

Group Five projects director Ham Coetzee said state of the art equipment is already in Bulawayo.

"We expect to start work on Monday on the 800km road stretch. Machinary would be moved to Plumtree during the weekend," said Coetzee.

He said they expect to finish the project in 36 months. Group Five is a South African company that has constructed most roads in Africa.

Most roads in Zimbabwe are dilapidated and countless fatal accidents have occurred.

Coetzee said the road would last for close to 20 years in good condition.
