Police in Matabeleland South are looking for a 50-year-old man from Fort Rixon who reportedly detained and raped his ex-wife for five days. The man allegedly followed his former wife to her village and force marched to his house.
The incident occurred in Glen Gray Village in Chief Sigola's area between April 15 and 20. The suspect and the 48-year-old victim had been divorced for the past two years.
It is understood that on April 15 at around 7pm, the suspect tracked his ex-wife who was now staying alone at Zimbili resettlement area.
When he arrived at the woman's homestead he requested that she accompany him to Glen Gray, but was turned down.
He threatened to beat her up after which he force marched her to his house where he raped her once. The suspect then locked the victim in his bedroom hut for five days where he continued to rape her.
The man is reported to have spent the five days guarding the bedroom hut.
The ex-wife escaped on the sixth day when the man had gone to attend a meeting in the same village.
Matabeleland South police spokesmen Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe confirmed the incident yesterday.
"Intensive investigations are in progress. The suspect is still at large and we are calling on anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
"We want to urge members of the community to desist from such criminal acts as they risk prosecution.
"We have adopted a zero tolerance to cases of sexual and gender-based violence. Let these criminals be warned that we are out to get them."
