A Bulawayo man from Mzilikazi suburb is lucky to be alive after his uncle allegedly hit him with an iron bar in an undisclosed family dispute.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday at Number G30 in the suburb.
It is alleged Mr Mabutho Khumalo, whose age was not given but residing at Number N 67, visited his uncle, Lazarus Ndlovu at his house G30 at about 7.45pm where his mother (name not given) was staying.
Upon arriving, he found her arguing with Ndlovu who was already armed with an iron bar.
It is alleged that Ndlovu (63) was hiding the iron bar behind his back and advancing towards Khumalo's mother with the intention of hitting her.
In a bid to rescue his mother, Khumalo intervened but Ndlovu allegedly hit him twice on the back of the head using the iron bar and he fell unconscious.
Ndlovu was yesterday arraigned before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tawanda Muchemwa facing a charge of attempted murder.
A medical report was produced in court, which showed that Khumalo sustained a deep cut on the back of his head.
Ndlovu was remanded in custody to 10 May.
For the State, Mr Robin Mukura said Ndlovu attempted to kill his nephew by hitting him with an iron bar.
A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Ndlovu.
