Police in Bulawayo are struggling to locate two of the three prisoners who escaped from Mlondolozi Prison, housed within the Khami Prison complex last month.
Criminal Investigations Department coordinator for Matabeleland region, Assistant Commissioner Erasmus Makodza said they were making frantic efforts to recapture the prisoners.
"We are following all the leads that we are getting and we expect to make an arrest soon. We appeal to members of the community who might have information that may lead to the recapture of these criminals not to hesitate to contact their nearest police station," he said.
Makodza warned the public against, 'trying to apprehend the criminals as they are dangerous."
Speculation has been rife that the prisoners could have been aided by prison guards as it was almost impossible to escape from the complex.
Makodza said, "while we cannot rule out any possibility of an inside job, our main concern for now is the criminals who are roaming the streets and pausing danger to society. Our primary goal therefore is to arrest the criminals first and return them where they belong before we shift our attention to these other allegations."
One of the escapees, Blessing Gorezara was captured in Bulawayo on Independence Day.
