Teacher nabbed for trying to steal headmaster's laptop

A teacher employed at St Thomas Aquinas Primary School in Kumalo, Bulawayo, tried to break into the headmaster's office intending to steal a laptop.
After cutting the bars on the screen door to the headmaster's office and damaging the locking system, Allan Janssen failed to open the door.
As Janssen was still in the building, he saw the movements of security guards outside and decided to leave the building through the kitchen roof.
He damaged the ceiling and went on to remove two roofing tiles in an attempt to get out of the building.
His luck ran out when he was arrested by police officers at the scene while still in the kitchen.
Janssen (47), of Number 53 Wellington Road in Montrose, pleaded guilty to unlawful entry into premises before Bulawayo magistrate Miss Marilyn Mtshina.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison of which three months were conditionally suspended for five years.
The remaining nine months were suspended on condition he completes 305 hours of community service.
Mr Admire Chikwayi, for the State, said on Thursday last week at about 5pm, Mr Cuthbert Chiromo, the headmaster of St Thomas Aquinas Primary School, locked his offices.
During the night, at about 9.30, Janssen proceeded to the premises and on arrival he unlocked the main entrance which leads to the main passage before proceeding to the headmaster's office.
In mitigation, Janssen admitted breaking into the premises and said his intention was to steal the headmaster's laptop, which he suspected had some pornographic material.
He claimed that despite having informed other members of staff about his suspicions,none of them seemed to be eager to expose the headmaster.
Janssen said he took it upon himself to expose the headmaster hence his decision to break into his office.
