Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo has again flexed his authority by firing the only MDC-T councilor in the Zanu-PF dominated Umguza Rural District Council with immediate effect.

Councillor Mxolisi Ndlovu was suspended  on allegations of disturbing the running of the council.

In a letter dated May 2 Chombo wrote to Ndlovu saying, "In terms section 157 (1) (d) (ii) of the Rural District Councils Act Chapter 29:13 as amended by section 14 of the Local Authorities Election Laws Amendment Act No 21 of 1997, I hereby suspend for from exercising all your duties and roles as councilor of ward 4 Umguza Rural District Council with immediate effect."

"The suspension is without benefits," said Chombo.

"Your conduct as a councilor is alleged to have been inconsistent with the interests of Umguza Rural District Council and this has affected the smooth operations of the local authority. Detailed charges will be served on you in due course," added Chombo.

He added that an investigation team will, "soon be put in place to look into the allegations of misconduct being levelled against you."

Zanu-PF has 12 councillors; MDC under Welshman Ncube has 6 while MDC-T had Ndlovu only.
