Movement for Democratic Change Deputy Secretary General and Minister of National Healing Moses Mzila Ndlovu has been cleared of charges of holding an unsanctioned meeting and making statements prejudicial to the state.

Hwange Magistrate Collet Ncube today cleared the minister who was in court over alleged offensive Gukurahundi remarks made at a public meeting in Lupane last year.

In a statement posted on Facebook, MDC national spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube said Mzila had been, "acquitted of all charges in the case in which the state was accusing him of inciting citizens to revolt against the government."

"All that Mzila had done was to call for past crimes such as the Gukurahundi atrocities of the early and mid 80s to be dealt with conclusively in order for our country to begin a true and honest journey towards national healing, forgiveness and sustainable peace. The truth will always prevail," wrote Dube.

A former freedom fighter, Mzila-Ndlovu is an outspoken critic of President Robert Mugabe and his Gukurahundi campaign in Matabeleland and Midlands in the early 1980s.

More than 20 000 civilians died in the operation and government has never endorsed debate on the issue.

Roman Catholic priest Marko Mnkandla who convened the meeting where Mzila Ndlovu is alleged to have uttered the statements subject to the charge was two weeks ago removed from remand by another Hwange provincial magistrate rose Dube after the state failed to provide witnesses.
