Co-National Healing minister Moses Mzila Ndlovu has said he will lobby ministers and politicians from Matabeleland to campaign to force the urgent enactment of the Gukurahundi Bill in Parliament.
Mzila-Ndlovu says he is doing so fully aware that Zanu-PF is working towards blocking it.
Magwegwe MP Felix Magalela Sibanda who proposed the Gukurahundi Bill once indicated that the bill was in its final drafting stages and had received support from across the political divide.
The MDC-T legislator first announced his intention to introduce the Bill in Parliament last month. He said it was meant to address the plight of victims of the 1980s massacres in Matabeleland and Midlands blamed on the army's Fifth Brigade.
"I would not support Zanu-PF's attempt to kill the Bill by being silent on it. I don't care who brings it to Parliament but I will support them.
"Probably its high time we (MDC) engaged with Sibanda and politicians from his party and see what we can do about it," said Mzila-Ndlovu. However, Defence minister Emmerson Mnangagwa has said there was no compensation of Gukurahundi victims under the current laws.
More than 20 000 villagers from Matabelelaland and Midlands were massacred between 1982 and 1987 by the crack fifth brigade.
