A 36-year-old man from Bulawayo's Old Pumula suburb has been arrested for robbing a woman of 2 Rand at knife point. The alleged incident occurred last weekend at a bushy spot between St Peters and Methodist Villages.

It is reported that on the day, the woman, Cecilia Banda went to a supermarket in Pumula suburb to do shopping. While she was doing her shopping, the alleged robber Mbonisi Ndebele (36) is said to have been following her movements closely. After the shopping, Banda then headed home unaware that trouble was brewing.

Ndebele is said to have followed her for metres until they got to a bushy spot. Noticing that time had come to strike, Ndebele allegedly grabbed the woman from behind and produced a knife. He reportedly demanded that she hands over all her money. The woman refused to do so before trying to take to her heels but Ndebele was too quick to react for her liking.

Ndebele is said to have searched the woman and forcibly took 2 Rand from her. Upon realising that his sojourns had not bared the required fruits, Ndebele demanded that she hands over more cash. The woman said she did not have any money. This reportedly did not go down well with Ndebele who slapped the woman a number of times for starving him. He then seized the woman's groceries.

She reportedly cried and begged for the man's mercies. Her tears were powerful enough to sway the man into changing his mind and handed them back before disappearing. Without wasting much time, she went to Pumula police station where she reported the matter. Police investigations led them to Ndebele's house where he was subsequently arrested.

He appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Themba Chimiso where he was remanded in custody to 20 June.
