A FEMALE ghost is reportedly terrorising motorists along Old Esigodini Road by stopping them and vanishing after having been given a lift.
According to motorists, the ghost usually targets male motorists and is often seen late at night.
"I was from town when I saw a woman stopping me and since it was already late I decided to help her out.
"When she got in the car we started chatting," said Mr Khumbulani Mhlanga.
He said just before they could reach Rio Hotel, the woman disappeared.
"I did not stop for her to disembark but after I had made a turn towards Waterford there was no one on the passenger side where she was seated.
"Fear gripped me to a point where I failed to drive and at the same time I could not stop because I thought she could come back for me," said Mr Mhlanga.
Another motorist, Mr Tendai Shoko said last week he stopped for a woman near Bulawayo Country Club. The woman said she wanted to go to the city centre.
"The woman was extremely beautiful and I did not suspect that there was something wrong with her but as she approached the door to get inside, fear suddenly gripped me," said Mr Shoko.
He said he then decided to lock the doors.
"To my utter surprise she opened the door on the passenger side despite it being locked," said Mr Shoko.
He said the woman just sat in the car and never said anything or where she wanted to go.
"I just drove off and trying to make sense of what had happened, moments later when I had gathered enough guts to ask her who she was, there was no one on the seat," said Mr Shoko.
He said that incident was a shock of his life.
Ms Bathabile Ndlovu from Mannigdale said the ghost tormented her as well.
"I stopped for her just after midnight at Leeside, but I got a shock of my life when she walked into the car without opening the door. She walked right through the car and came out on the other side," said Ms Ndlovu.
She said she panicked and sped off.
"I will never stop for anyone again, lest I pick up a ghost," said Ms Ndlovu.
The ghost is reported to have been tormenting motorists for more than a year now.
