Council to hand over defaulters to police

Bulawayo City Council plans to hand over residents who default on paying water bills and fines to the police.
Council has already prepared a list of defaulters.
"The chamber secretary confirmed that defaulters were fined but were not paying the fines. She explained that offenders should be prosecuted; however council had no powers to prosecute. A list of defaulters had been compiled and would be handed over to the law enforcement agents.
Names would be forwarded to the law enforcement agents even though council did not benefit here as fines were paid direct to central government" reads part of a council report.
Council has limited daily consumption for residents ranging from 300-350 litres per day as part of its harsh eight hour water rationing regime for the city as it says the current water levels at the supply dams "threatens the existing population and industry."
