The Cleansing Section of the Health Department of the Bulawayo City Council received a boost in the form of three state-of-the-art refuse compactors from a combined effort by the Australian and German governments under a new cooperation agreement with the City, ZDDT reported.
The three trucks were handed over at a colourful ceremony at the City Hall recently.
They each have a capacity of 60 cubic metres compacted to 20 cubic metres of refuse and can complete 3 circles daily. This brings the total amount of refuse collected daily by these newly donated trucks to 180 cubic metres.
The donation brings the total number of refuse compactors to 14 in the City, thereby almost fully capacitating this aspect of Service Delivery by the LA.
The LA recently intensified its refuse collection exercise to weekly in the Suburbs and fortnightly in the Townships as well as some daily collections for specific food related businesses.
