Bulawayo boy takes over at Anglo American Platinum for a few months

Bongani Nqwababa who is the current Chief Finance Officer of Anglo American Platinum will from today until 1 September 2012 fulfil the role of Chief Executive Officer of that business following Neville Nicolau's decision to resign as CEO of Anglo American's Platinum business to pursue other interests.

The Board of Anglo American Platinum Limited has appointed Chris Griffith as the company's new CEO. Mr Griffith has been CEO of Kumba Iron Ore Limited since 2008. Prior to joining Kumba, he worked at Anglo American Platinum for 18 years, reaching the position of Head of Joint Venture Operations.

Bongani Nqwababa, born 05-03-1966, holds a BAcc (Honours) from the University of Zimbabwe, he is a qualified Chartered Accounted, holds an MBA from the University Manchester and serves as an Executive Director of Finance at Anglo Platinum. Nqwababa served as Chief Financial Officer of Anglo Platinum since January 1, 2009. He served as a Finance Director of Eskom Holdings Ltd., from September 2004 to September 2008. Prior to joining Eskom, he served as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Shell Southern Africa and also worked in the Treasury Departments of Fortis Bank in the Netherlands and FBC Fidelity Bank in South Africa. Mr. Nqwababa's past experience includes roles as head of foreign exchange at Fidelity Investment Bank and as an Audit Manager at Pricewaterhouse (South Africa). He served as Chairman of Eskom Finance Company, Escap. He has been Executive Director of Anglo Platinum Ltd. since January 1, 2009. Mr. Nqwababa has been an Independent Non-executive Director of Old Mutual plc since April 1, 2007. He serves as a Director of Eskom Enterprises, Rotek Industries and Rosherville Properties, Roshcon. He served as a Director of Eskom Holdings Ltd., since 2004. He holds Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) from the University of Zimbabwe and is a Chartered Accountant. Mr. Nqwababa received Masters in Business Administration in Finance from the Universities of Manchester and Wales in 1991.

Anglo American has also appointed another Zimbabwean - Godfrey Gomwe - as CEO of its Thermal Coal business. Godfrey has been Executive Director of Anglo American South Africa since 2009 and has extensive experience across a number of Anglo American businesses, including as CEO of Anglo American's operations in Zimbabwe, and brings a deep knowledge of Anglo American's operations, partners and other key stakeholders in Southern Africa.

Godfrey Gomwe has been Executive Director of Anglo American South Africa since 2009 and was previously Head of Business Development, Africa and Finance Director and COO of Anglo American South Africa. Godfrey joined Anglo American in 1999 and has also served as the Chief Executive of Anglo American's operations in Zimbabwe before moving to the Group's South African operations in 2003.
