A Bulawayo man with a history of mental illness allegedly grabbed a woman who was relieving herself in a bush and dragged her to his house at knifepoint before raping her once.
This came to light yesterday at the initial appearance of Edison Chimusoro (37) of New Lobengula before Bulawayo magistrate Richard Ramaboea sitting at Western Commonage Magistrates' Courts. Chimusoro is facing rape charges. He was remanded in custody to August 16 and was ordered to be examined by two doctors in terms of the Mental Health Act.
The complainant told the court that when Chimusoro raped her he threatened her with death and told her he was not afraid of prison since he once served a jail term and showed her tattoos on his hand as evidence of his claims.
Fiona Ncube for the State told the court that on Wednesday at around 6am, the complainant was walking along a path in a bushy area. She left the path to relieve herself and at that point Chimusoro arrived and produced a knife threatening the complainant.
He allegedly grabbed her and led her to his house. On arrival, he forced her into his bedroom where he allegedly raped her once at knifepoint.
After finishing abusing her, Chimusoro threatened her with death and released her. The woman left for her home and then made a police report. Police took her to Chimusoro's house where he was arrested after she positively identified him
